Your Retirement Assets Will Not Manage Themselves
Most university faculty and staff have difficulty managing their retirement assets effectively. That's not surprising. To do so requires significant time, along with a broad understanding of the issues and restrictions involved with setting–and correctly following–the right course. This has never been more true than in today's volatile, shifting financial markets.
Below is a brief outline of some of the issues you may encounter while trying to plan and optimize your retirement assets as a university professional. We look forward to talking with you in more depth about these obstracles, and how we can help you overcome them.
Multiple Accounts
You may have a number of retirement accounts due to previous employers, savings outside of employer-sponsored plans, or because of the multiple plans available by your employer. Your current employer offers a mandatory plan, and in many cases more than one supplemental retirement plan. Added to this is the difficulty of having to choose between multiple vendors in each plan.
Plan Adjustments
University retirement plans have gone through a series of significant changes as a result of recent major revisions of the federal tax code. These changes have brought about greater employer oversight of plans, increased the contribution limits for plan participants, and had the effect of reducing the number of vendor's products available.
Time Constraints
Many of these tax code changes have occurred in tandem with an erratic stock market, historically low bond yields, and an uncertain political environment. These events have forced each of us to rethink our paths to retirement. Coupled with tax code and retirement plan changes, many individuals simply do not feel that they have the time to obtain, interpret, and act upon information to effectively manage their retirement assets.
Life Changes
All of these issues, as well as your personal needs, are changing with time. Your money needs to be managed differently as you age and as our economy changes.
